Sushma, did you go to Pundit School? I thought you had a day job.
No, I didn't. But my family is from Eastern U.P. and pujas were our jam. I learned the basics from my grandparents and figured out how to customize a wedding when I got married myself. My Hindi is excellent, my Sanskrit is good and I swear I have passed even the toughest Aunty's sniff test! My grandmother helps me practice my mantras first so all of my material is pre-vetted. Believe me when I say, her praise is hard to come by.
And yes, I do have a day job. I work in PR and I love it. This is my passion project #sidehustle to do some good. The world needs more love!
Will you customize a ceremony with me?
Of course! My mantra is: your wedding, your call. I'm here to help you figure out what you want and how to make it all work with the cultural touches you'd like woven into the mix. My only guidepost is making sure we stick to progressive, inclusive tenets. So I strip out anything that reeks of misogyny, patriarchy or otherwise offensive rhetoric.
